Broadstairs Food Festival History

The first Broadstairs Food Festival, in 2009, was a joint initiative between Broadstairs and St Peters Chamber of Commerce (C of C) and Broadstairs Tourism and Leisure Association (BTLA), under the umbrella of BEST CIC (Broadstairs Events Support Community Interest Company).

Their first venture was the creation of a new, prestigious food festival to feature in the Broadstairs’ events calendar, with the aim of offering local and Kent food producers an opportunity to promote their goods and services to townspeople and visitors and to offer something to look forward to after the heat of summer had become a distant memory.

Did we do it? Yes, indeed. The inaugural festival proved to be a huge success with approximately 15,000 people attending the 2010 three day Food Fayre, enjoying the Kitchen Theatre demonstrations, sampling the food and buying the best of local produce. Last year, that number increased to 21,000.

Each year we hope to bring something new and innovative to the Festival. This year, we will be launching a Festival Restaurant Trail, highlighting good eateries around Broadstairs – so do plan time to savour the culinary delights of Broadstairs.

We do hope that you enjoy this year’s event - and we look forward to planning 2012!

Enjoy the Festival!
JO SCOTT
Deputy Chair
